SACAR Online Courses 2010 Last Updated: January 1, 1970 Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research (SACAR), Pondicherry SACAR started in 1998 with an objective to facilitate in-depth study of and research into the thought and vision of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother and relate it to the present and future of India in particular, and the world in general. We offer various educational programmes integrating several facets of Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual vision and thought"philosophy, poetry, yoga psychology, social-political thought, cultural study and literary criticism. We also provide effective in-depth instruction of and guidance on student-directed research in various areas. In partnership with IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), the largest distance education university in India, SACAR is presently offering several post-graduate programmes on the thought and vision of Sri Aurobindo via online mode. These programmes primarily attract non-traditional, adult students who are generally highly motivated and self-directed learners, and feel most comfortable in a learning environment that allows them to be in control of their learning, and provides ample flexibility. All our online programmes involve comprehensive and well-organized coursework including regular interaction with facilitators and peers through regular online discussions. Thorough and careful reading and interpretation of texts, and creative and reflective written assignments help students develop strong intellectual abilities. We are guided by the ideal that education is the means for facilitating individual transformation to prepare the humankind, one individual at a time, for a collective transformation. Our educational approach is inspired by the Free-Progress Integral Method developed by the Mother at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education in Pondicherry, and utilized successfully in various learning institutions in India and abroad. The term ‘free-progress' means that within certain basic educational structures, the learner is given full freedom to approach and explore the subjects they study in their own unique manner, but without sacrificing the concentrated focus and rigour necessary for high quality work. This educational method encourages the development of the individual and fosters original and free thinking. All our programmes and courses (except the 6-month Certificate Programme) are designed around a semester system. The academic semesters at SACAR generally begin on August 15 and February 21 and each semester is 16-week long.
